The following attractions and activities are available to you and
are recommended by the locals .

NEW PLYMOUTH:
As the main center in Taranaki, New Plymouth has a lot to offer.  There are many histoical buildings and the area is renowned for its stunning gardens.  The taranaki region is steeped in history, the land wars between Maori and European are particularly fasinating.  There are a variety of walks around the area with the newly open coastal walkway being especially popular.  The annual Festival of Lights that is held each summer is aspectacle not to be missed.

The Taranaki coastland, which is known as the 'surf highway' is very dramatic and has some world-class surfing beaches.  As the coastline is so close to Mount Taranaki there is easy access between the two natural attractions.

WHANGAMOMONA:
Whangamomona is midway point along the "Forgotten World Highway".  This highway runs between Stratford at the base of Mt Taranaki and Taumarunui near Mt Ruapehu in the central North Island.  Whangamomona consists of a hotel and the few locals that live there well ensure you have a warm welcome and a memorable time.  The drive will take you through some of the most stunning scenery and beautiful country in New Zealand.  It is truly a place that has been largely untouched by mankind.

INGLEWOOD:
Escape to a nearby picnic area or enjoy the local cafe scene.
The Toy Museum is a must see here along with several private art galleries.

HAWERA:
Te gateway to South Taranaki.  From here the Surf Highway 45 is easily accessible along with some lovely beaches along the coast.
Hawera is also home to the world largest site for a dairy factory.

WANGANUI:
This historical city surrounds the mouth of the Whanganui River.  The river is the host to a variety of water-based activities including riverboat cruises, canoe and kayak safaries, jet boating and fishing.  It also hosts major Maori settlements and evidence of this can be seen up and down the river.
The city has some very beautiful gardens and Lake Virginia is always popular with visitors and local alike.  Theatre, music and art are important to the people of Wanganui and the museum, which is home to the famous collection of Linauer portraits, is definitly worth a visit.
